Residential care home for the elderly in Witney, Oxfordshire

Frequently Asked Questions

What activities/entertainment are available at Newland?

Activities and entertainment are tailored to the interests of Residents at any point in time. We have recently employed an Activities Co-ordinator whose role it is to convert the aspirations and frustrations of Residents into worthwhile activities and entertainment. Most activities will be in the Home, but there will also be visits to outside attractions, shopping trips, pub lunches, etc. It is not our wish to provide a 'holiday camp' atmosphere but more to find pursuits and hobbies to suit groups of Residents and individuals. See our current Activities Programme for more details.

Can I have my hair done at Newland?

Yes of course - our visiting hairdresser attends weekly, currently on a Friday afternoon, and this is without charge. Alternatively we can arrange for your existing favourite hairdresser to visit you at Newland.

Can Mum/Dad bring their own furniture?

In principle yes of course, depending on the size of room. It should be discussed with the Manager once a room has been allocated on admission.

Can I bring my dog?

Sorry no, we can't accommodate pets. Whilst visitors are encouraged to bring trained dogs to Newland to see Residents, we don't have dog walking facilities nor feel it appropriate to inflict animals on the other Residents.

Can Mum/Dad have a bath or shower when they wish?

Yes, of course. Newland has a range of bathing and shower facilities, and staff are trained in their use. Residents may bathe whenever and as frequently as they wish. See our Personal Care page for more details of our excellent facilities.

Do GPs visit?

Yes. Any Witney Residents will keep their current GP who will visit when required. The Manager will register any non-Witney Residents at one of the local medical practices. Of course, all the healthcare professionals associated with the Practice will also visit when appropriate.

Does Mum/Dad have to be moved to a Nursing Home if they become more frail?

Almost certainly not. If a resident's physical or mental state deteriorates and requires nursing or specialist care, we call upon the full support of the Community Medical and Nursing Service, which along with our trained caring staff can cope with all but the most difficult situation. If a resident becomes very sick or breaks a limb, it is likely that they will be hospitalised and we will liaise with the Health Professionals to ensure an early return from Hospital to Newland.
