Meet Our Team

We employ around 30 staff, all of whom are recruited locally and speak English as a first language. A substantial number have NVQ qualifications or are currently undertaking training; we believe in providing training opportunities for all our staff.

You may meet some of the following personnel on your visits to Newland House:

Sue Kent

Manager
Sue Kent - Manager Sue Kent, the Registered Manager, has been at Newland House since 1994. Whilst bringing up a family and working full time she attained her NVQ 2, 3 & 4 as well as her Registered Managers Award. Sue manages the Home on a day-to-day basis and has particular interest in staff improvement through training. She insists on 'things being done right' for the Residents in her care.

Sue Walker

Care Supervisor
Sue Walker - Care Supervisor Sue Walker, a Care Supervisor, has been employed at Newland House since 2002, and having had a spell in HM Forces and brought up a family she knows about multi-tasking. Apart from all the responsibilities involved with being a Care Supervisor, Sue has responsibility for reporting on Residents' wellbeing in terms of nourishment.

Kim Barber

Senior Carer
Kim Barber - Senior Carer Kim is a Senior Carer who has been at Newland since 2003. Having completed her NVQ 2 she is now studying for her NVQ 3. Kim's training, along with her experience, gives her the skills to be responsible for all that occurs on her shift.

Pauline

Housekeeper
Pauline - Housekeeper Pauline is an NVQ qualified carer who works as a Housekeeper in the Home. She has a pride in her duty which is enviable and the results of her work are obvious. She works alongside Sarah and between them they maintain the high standard of cleanliness which is expected of them. Of course, the Housekeepers also spend a lot of time with Residents and they are chosen on the basis of their ability to carry out their tasks, whilst also giving time and appropriate responses to our Residents.

Maria

Catering
Maria - Catering Maria, along with Donna, is responsible for providing the excellent food which we enjoy at Newland House. Maria is a trained carer and has all the catering qualifications to ensure that our Residents receive wholesome and safe nourishment. Maria and Donna consult daily with Residents to provide a menu which is both acceptable and appropriate to dietary needs.

Lucy

Activities Co-ordinator
Lucy - Activities Co-ordinator Lucy is our Activities Co-ordinator, and despite her youth has people-skills from which the Diplomatic Corps could learn. She plays the piano, sings, plays board games, takes Residents in to Town or on outings and pub lunches, and organises pursuits which Residents request. She operates very well on a one-to-one basis, to suit individuals. She is not a 'holiday camp redcoat', and reacts to needs and requests.

Gemma

Carer
Gemma - Carer Gemma is a very experienced carer studying for her NVQ, at the same time as bringing up her young daughter. She has the patience of Job, and is an understanding and compassionate person with whom anyone would entrust their dearest relative.
