Activities Programme

We have a wide and varied range of activities and entertainment at Newland, which is tailored to the interests of Residents at any point in time. Our Activities Co-ordinator, Lucy, is responsible for planning the Programme (see below), in consultation with Residents.

Lucy spends most of her time in one-to-one or small group interaction. Sometimes just listening, perhaps playing Scrabble, playing a duo on the piano, reading or writing letters or taking individuals to Town for a coffee or appointment. She also arranges group activities according to Residents' wishes and as listed in her Programme.

Whilst it is not our wish to produce a 'holiday camp' atmosphere, we do aim to offer pursuits and hobbies to meet the wishes of individuals and groups. Most activities are in the home, but we also offer visits to outside attractions, shopping trips, pub lunches, etc.

For Residents who enjoy reading, daily newspapers are provided and visits to the local library can be arranged. We also have library volunteers who collect and deliver books from the library according to Residents' choice.

For those who enjoy a little nostalgia or indeed the latest films, we have a DVD library containing classic sets of Morecambe & Wise, All Gas & Gaiters, etc., as well as classic films of the 40's, 50's and 60's. These can be watched in Residents' rooms, with our portable player, or in the TV lounge.

Some Residents may be computer literate, or wish to be, perhaps to keep in touch with family by email. We have a powerful computer work station, internet enabled, exclusively for Residents' use in the Bistro, and Lucy, our Activities Co-ordinator is happy to provide assistance.

Family and friends are very welcome to join us for activities, and this can greatly enhance our Residents' enjoyment of the events.

See below for activities currently planned.
